The Position

The primary focus of Home Based Care Program is to provide high quality home based care placements for children and young people who are not able to reside in the care of their family.

Principals that guide our practice include the appropriate screening, assessment and matching of children referred for placement with volunteer caregivers able to meet their care needs.  We strive to actively minimise placement disruption, promote stability and continuity in line with permanency planning principals, for all children & young people placed in the program.

This role is responsible for conducting Foster Care Assessments using Shared Stories, Shared Lives and the Step by Step assessment method.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Early Childhood Specialist or similar or less formal qualifications with specialised skills sufficient to perform at this level.
  • Knowledge of the Step by Step assessment package.
  • Knowledge of the Shared Stories, Shared Lives training package.
  • A high level of assessment and report writing skills

Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Demonstrated theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of program policies and practices pertaining to out-of-home care services.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and theory of child protection and the various factors that lead to a child being placed in out-of-home care.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the roles and contributions of volunteer caregivers in the delivery and functioning of out-of-home care services.
  • Practical understanding of the stages of child development.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation, including child protection and privacy legislation.
  • Ability to work in a collegiate and effective way with staff and foster families.
  • Effective interpersonal and relational skills.

Please Note: It is mandatory for the successful applicant to hold a current Victorian Drivers Licence, a Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a National Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
