About the role:
We are currently looking for an applicant who identifies as Aboriginal or of Torres Strait Islander background to work with our Navigator program, which is an innovative, research-informed program that assists disengaged learners to re-connect back into education and learning.
The primary aim of this role is to provide case management for young people (12 - 17yrs) who have disconnected from school and alleviate barriers to young people participating in mainstream education and support families to encourage access. A key focus of this role is working with Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Youth and Families. The role works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, comprising of a Team Leader, Intake and Assessment Workers, Case managers, Youth Counsellor, a Groups Facilitator and other relevant services, bringing expertise and valuable understanding of Indigenous culture.
To be Successful in this Role You will:
- Identify as Aboriginal or of Torres Strait Islander background
- Extensive experience working with and knowledge of Victoria's Traditional Owners and Aboriginal people and communities, their culture values, protocols and other issues relevant to Aboriginal communities.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level with substantial experience is desirable; or associate diploma level with substantial experience in the relevant service stream, or less formal qualifications with specialised skills sufficient to perform at this level will also be accepted.
- Ability and experience in case management with young people, families and/or significant others and to contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of student re-engagement plans.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with government and non-government organisations, mental health services, community groups and clients’ families/networks.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, and to contribute to program development, implementation and evaluation.
- Knowledge of service supports available to assist young people and their families (knowledge of the social demographics and community services within the Western Melbourne Area is useful but not essential).
