Anglicare Victoria acknowledges First Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work and live, the skies and waterways. We recognise their continuing connection to Country, Culture, and community and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

About Anglicare Victoria

Anglicare Victoria works alongside children, young people, families, and communities to prevent harm and support people to thrive. We acknowledge that First Peoples continue to experience disproportionate disadvantage as a result of ongoing injustice, colonisation, and the impacts of policies of dispossession, erasure, and assimilation.

As an organisation, we believe we have a responsibility as a service provider, an employer and a sector leader, to walk alongside First Peoples in truth-telling, healing, and self-determination. We are committed to becoming a culturally safe organisation where connection to Culture, community, and Country is recognised as a human right, an essential part of growing up strong, and a source of strength and guidance for our workforce.

This work is currently overseen by boonde-mak, Anglicare Victoria’s First Peoples governance group, co-chaired by the Chief Executive Officer and Head of Culture First Peoples, and is grounded in allyship, learning, accountability, and action.

About the Role

The Head of Culture First Peoples is a senior leadership role providing cultural authority, strategic guidance, and expert advice across Anglicare Victoria. The role works closely with the CEO, Executive team, Senior Leaders, and Board to embed culturally safe practice, strengthen relationships with First Peoples communities and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), and support sustained organisational change.

This is a role of influence, trust, and shared leadership that will shape how Anglicare Victoria listens, learns, and acts. Cultural leadership in this role is supported by executive sponsorship, governance oversight through boonde-mak, and shared responsibility across the organisation for embedding cultural safety, reconciliation, and anti-racism.

Key responsibilities include

  • Providing cultural leadership and authoritative advice that informs executive decision-making, organisational priorities, and risk management.
  • Partnering with the Executive Sponsor of Anglicare Victoria’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to guide implementation, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Leading and managing the Buldau Yioohgen Leadership Academy, including on-Country camps, outreach, events, and associated risk management, in partnership with First Peoples children, young people, families, and communities, with operational support from and in partnership with Assistant Director Community & Youth Services.
  • Designing, developing, and supporting the delivery of cultural education for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leading the First Peoples Employee Network to support connection, learning, and organisational feedback.
  • Representing Anglicare Victoria in community, sector, and government forums in ways that are culturally appropriate, supported, and aligned with community expectations.
  • Contributing to organisational strategy, program development, evaluation, and reporting to support improved outcomes for First Peoples children, young people, families, and workforce

  • Demonstrated experience designing, leading, or coordinating programs that support healing, wellbeing, empowerment, and self-determination.
  • Strong stakeholder relationships with First Peoples leaders, communities, and organisations, or significant experience building these respectfully.
  • Strategic thinking and sound judgement in complex environments, with the ability to design shared-value outcomes with communities.
  • Experience leading and motivating teams with high emotional intelligence and cultural safety.
  • Confidence in governance, risk management, reporting, and budget oversight.
  • The ability to navigate complexity with integrity, care, and clarity.

Why Join Anglicare Victoria:
