About the Role:

A Youth Mentor works with clients within the out of home care sector, they act as a positive role model in supporting young people to engage in pro-social activities and to assist in the development of independent life and living skills. As a Youth Mentor, you will work closely with case managers and the care team to help provide the best outcomes for our young people. Some of the general tasks include:

  • Working with case managers to support and maintain placement
  • Transporting young people to school and/or appointments,
  • Working with young people to set, develop and work towards their own goals
  • Supporting care givers
  • Provide creative respite to placement through outreach and linking in with community activities
  • Creating positive memories for children in care

How you’ll Make your Mark:

  • Engage with young people over the phone and in person
  • Act as a respectful and positive role model for young people who have experience significant trauma
  • Use knowledge of Best Interest Principles as outlined within the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005
  • Put skills and knowledge gained from a minimum of a Certificate IV in Community Services or Child, Youth and Family Intervention or Youth Work or similar

 

The important stuff:

  • SCHADS Level 3 which is $39.77 per hour plus 25% casual loading.
  • Varying hours that may include weekends (penalty rates paid).
  • Office location: Bendigo with outreach across the Loddon region.
  • You must have a drivers license.
  • Pool cars available for you to use.
