About the role 

A position in residential care can be as varied as the team you’ll work with and the young people in our care, but in the end it’s all about delivering the best possible therapeutic and restorative care to young people. The role is challenging and varied, offering a chance to continue to learn, grow and contribute to positive outcomes.

Our residential youth workers are passionate, motivated, resilient supportive and act as role models for the young people while supporting colleagues to provide a safe and nurturing home environment. This requires excellent communication and relationship building skills, the ability to maintain professional boundaries, and an understanding of how to work therapeutically with young people with complex needs.

  • Opportunity to take up to 38 hours of shifts a week, with weekday, weekend, day, and active night shifts available.

Skills and experience 

  • Knowledge of adolescent and child development and the theories relating to Trauma and attachment as the aftermath of abuse and neglect.
  • Skills in managing the challenging and confronting behaviours that arise from this; in a calm and consistent manner and modelling this to staff.
  • Strong understanding of therapeutic support and crisis intervention.
  • Experience in and/or understanding of the child protection system.
  • Ability to work side by side with colleagues, contributing to our strong culture of support and inclusion

You will also need either

  • A preferred Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention qualification, including four (4) additional mandatory competencies units (Residential Care Skill Set)
  • A relevant Cert IV, Diploma or Bachelor including four (4) additional mandatory competencies units (Residential Care Skill Set).
