The Program:

The Victims Assistance Program aims to assist victims to effectively manage the damaging consequences of violent crime and to minimise the secondary victimisation sometimes associated with involvement in criminal justice system. Provide psychological first aid, information, referral, casework, and advocacy and case management services to victims of violent crime

What you will do:

  • Provide support to and represent victims at group conferences across the region – including intensive pre and post conference support. 
  • Provide general victim impact awareness at group conferences where victims do not wish to be involved.
  • Provide secondary consultation and appropriate support to conferencing convenors regarding engagement of victims. 
  • Deliver trauma-informed and victim-centred on-site and phone-based services for victims identified at the Children’s Court, to ensure they are linked with relevant victim services, receive relevant updates on matters, and are aware of their opportunities to engage in the youth justice system including opportunities for restorative justice.
  • Deliver services in a culturally safe manner, including identifying and being responsive to victims’ individual and cultural needs.
  • Collaborate with CCVE and Conferencing teams in VRSR and other VAP agencies on operational processes and to create a seamless experience for victims and share learnings and improvements.  
  • Proactively build and maintain positive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders with a focus on securing positive victim and service system outcomes.
  • Contribute to the daily operations of the Children’s Court team to meet operational requirements, including following operational procedures and processes and demonstrating a high level of professionalism.
  • Build capacity of VAP staff and the organisation regarding the youth justice system, trends and issues.
  • Escalate critical risks or issues to management and recommend viable solutions. 

Technical expertise

  • Understanding of the youth justice system (including the Children’s Court), victim service system and relevant legislation.
  • Experience working with victims of crime.
  • Demonstrated experience in trauma informed approaches to assessment, referrals and victim support. 
  • Understanding of restorative justice theory and principles, including an understanding of group conferencing processes.
  • Ability to develop and maintain authentic and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to secure positive client and service system outcomes.
  • Excellent ICT, written and interpersonal communication skills.

 

Make A Move:

  • A salary starting at around $100,766 at full time, plus super plus salary packaging (Level 5 SCHADS)
  • Fixed term position, part time 4 days/0.8 FTE per week (pro rata salary) until 30 June 2028
  • This position can be based across any of our Loddon Mallee Region offices in Bendigo, Swan Hill, Mildura, Echuca or Kyneton.
